The Reverse Design Process

The initial brief for this assignment was to create a surface design for a product that I would be notified of at a later date. I could use any medium I wanted as long as it would fit in my A4 sketchbook [No computers at this stage].

For this assignment the idea was that working blind would hopefully allow my creativity would shine through. I was advised to produce as many designs as possible as this would make the final selection an easier one as I would have a broad spectrum to pick from.

The process was to spend the first three weeks of the assignment exploring my creativity through the use of any artistic medium I could. This included using things such as coloured pens, pencils, paints, rulers, stencils, coins, bendy rulers.

I soon came to the opinion that as it was a surface I would try and create designs including patterns. My thinking behind this was that when it came to applying it to the product a pattern would not look out of place.

When the final product was revealed as the Kidrobot Dunny model it was great to finally see what I had been designing for.

This site showcases the artwork created throughout this assignment along with a personal evaluation of the project.
